Dez's guide hits the spot!

Though I will busy attending the games, Dez's guide was exactly the thing I was looking for to cruise this historic city and take in the sites. I didn't have time to get bogged down in other guides whose print is too small and difficult to read and now I have plenty of fun activities without having to be stuck on a double decker bus. In a population crash, a female-biased population will survive far better than a male-heavy one.

In this book, Anne Campbell redresses the balance of evolutionary theory in favour of women. She examines how selection pressures have shaped the female mind over thousands of generations: Their emotions, friendship, competition, aggression and mate choice. She brings together data from neuroscience, endocrinology, anthropology, primatology as well as psychology to address fundamental questions about sex differences.... About the Author

Anne Campbell, Department of Psychology, Durham University, UK

Anne Campbell is a Professor of Psychology at Durham University. After completing her D.Phil. on female delinquency at Oxford University, she worked in the United States for eleven years studying girl gang members and violent crime. Since then, she has taken an evolutionary approach to understanding sex differences in aggression, focusing on the psychological mechanisms that mediate behavioural differences between men and women. She has published 5 books, and won the Distinguished Publication Award from Association for Women in Psychology. She has written over 90 academic articles on topics such as female crime, intimate partner violence, one night stands, competition, gender development, impulsivity, fear, hormonal effects, and mental representations of aggression.

Amazing Work

Everyone interested in the topic of gender differences, aggression in women or generally evolutionary psychology should read this great book. Brilliantly written, underpinned with empirical evidence in every step of her logically conclusive thinking, it is a pleasure to read and as exciting to me as the works of Steven Pinker. Fabulous, I bought this book on the off chance - now it is a very cherished read to me, a real eye opener!

Extraordinary

This is a work of exceptional academic muscle and talent.

Rarely, rarely do you come upon a writer who can cover such immense amounts of information, writing flawlessly and with effortless "flow" from one subject to another. This woman has got to be the most dynamite professor...every concept is rendered precisely and accessibly.

Every word is supported by research throughout the related fields--a solid hunk of the book is devoted to references, which also appear parenthetically within the text, so the original researchers' work can be followed by the reader as concepts develop.

Better, here and there are flashes of a subtle humor, a dry wit and revelations of a generally deep & wide-ranging intelligence that one can only admire.

It's a "dense" book--not a quickie read--but I highly recommend it. Highly.
