About the Author
Gilbert Doctorow is a professional Russia watcher going back to 1965. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College (1967) and holder of a Ph.D. with honors in history from Columbia University (1975). After completing his studies, Mr. Doctorow pursued a buisness career focused on the USSR and Eastern Europe. For 25 years he worked for US and European multinationals in marketing and general management with regional responsibility. From 1998-2002, Doctorow served as the Chairman of the Russian Booker Literary Prize in Moscow. He is a today co-founder and European Coordinator of the American Committee for East West Accord Ltd. based in Brussels. Doctorow's previous books are "Great Post-Cold War American Thinkers on International Relations" (2010) and "Steooing Out of Line, Collected (Nonconformist) Essays on Russian-American Relations, 2008-12" (2013),

If you are not satisfied with what the Western main stream tells about Putin and Ukarine, this is a must read. It will never be a classic, it is not that kind of book, but it will bring you up to steed.

OMG Awesome!

Somewhat embarrassing admission, given the target audience of this book: I don't have kids.

Somewhat saving argument, given the previous admission: I have a wife who loooves Jim's Pancakes (the site this book is based on).

"OMG Pancakes!" is in this weird place where it's "sort of" a recipe book, "sort of" a set of IKEA instructions, and "sort of" a coffee table book, but work as all three. All of these "sort ofs" add up to one awesome book that turns breakfast into a combination of building blocks and art.

I have yet to have someone take a look at this book and not go, "Oh this is amazing! But how did he... ?" The creations are fun, funny, and the perfect thing to keep around to surprise your kids (or, in my case, your inner-kids).

I love this book. We have created so many fun pancakes with inspiration from this book. My toddler asks for whale and star and fish pancakes all the time. I dont think we could ever go back to regular boring pancakes!

Dark and Steamy

Inheritance is a romantic,erotic novel, its characters are likeable and easy to relate too.

I will try my hardest not to let any spoilers slip out, but I really enjoyed this book.
I read it very quickly, because I found it easy to read, full of twists, I couldn’t put it down.
The novel is written from the point of view of three characters, each chapter you get a different view, which I really liked, its unusual but makes it more interesting.
Yes there is sex here, but it’s not gratuitous, in fact I’m hoping Zoey’s next book will have even more of the sexy times!
What I liked most was the fact there is actually a story here. It’s not just people jumping into bed and grinding on down for the sake of it. I could easily imagine every character having a full life, even spin-off novels of their own.

The complex nature of the two mains was great. They each have their own issues, baggage if you will.

The way Zoey has approached sexy stuff is great actually. Its pretty hard to write erotic descriptions without them sounding cheesy and trite. If I hear one more time about people’s inner goddess or warmth?, yes warmth has been used in a book to describe a womans ‘bits’ I mean there is just no need for tiptoeing around. If your going to say pussy, then say it, and please continue to say it through the book! Changing your mind about words you use for body parts half way in the book is annoying and just shows sloppy editing I guess. Fortunately for me, Zoey hit all the right spots with the language she used. Not too crude, not too prissey, not to cheesy.

Talking of which, the editing here is great. I will be honest. I have read many, many (cheap and nasty) erotic novels. One thing which is common is the lack of decent editing. Spelling mistakes, I can forgive the odd one but some are rife and that’s a deal breaker for me. I can’t read a book which has been hurriedly and sloppily thrown together and shoved on Amazon.

I’m looking forward to the next book very much! bring on book two :)

I got off to a bad start reading this when the fifth word was "Concertinaed" and I had no idea what the hell that is supposed to mean, something that doesn't happen too often, even if English is not my first language. Fortunately there were many other words, all of which I could understand, and almost all of them with much less letters (like four).

The author is not shy in describing sex. But this is not some kind of mindless porn. If anything, the main message of the book is that feeling matters.

My favorite line of this novel was "something has come up", when one of the characters is changing his plans suddenly. Sorry, you'll need to read the book to understand what's so remarkable about that.

If you do, you'll find some nice comedy in the mix. It worked well for me.

I adored this book!

First off, it’s just soooo perfectly British. Being a huge angliophile all the little British-isms made me want to squeal like a little fan girl. It was like taking a mind vacay to England and that was just lovely.

There is a little known (in America, anyway) British show that was on awhile back called Black Books, starring one of my absolutely favorite comedians, (and he’s a damn fine man, as well) Irish cutie Dylan Moran. The bookstore setting and all reminds me very much of that show, which made me all blissful and happy.

Now to the actual plot and characters and such;

Mel is a very sad, rather pathetic figure in the beginning, a little frustrating, but very REAL, if you get me. She is also described minimally, but it is reiterated more than once that she is quite plain and could stand to lose a few pounds. Just off a nasty breakup with the only man she had ever slept with and staying with her only real friend and his boyfriend, we start with Mel desperately passing out resumes to get a job and try to get back on her feet. She doesn’t get very far before her bestie’s awesome partner takes pity on her and personally takes her to Diamond Books.

She gets her job after meeting Dominic Diamond. Dom is totally sexy and sweet and Mel is blown away by him, but she has NO clue what he is really like.

Dom is as pathetic and messed up in his way as Mel is in hers. He's a man slut, addicted to sex and using women left and right like a little whore. This sounds effed up and it is, but the writer does a superb job of making you fall in love with both Mel and Dom and all their brokeness. One of my fave quotes from this book is:

'Maybe every single person on the planet is completely messed up in their own special way.'

What a beautiful mess this book is! I didn't want it to end!

About the Author

Charles E. Carraher, Jr., is a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, and associate director of the Florida Center for Environmental Studies, Palm Beach Gardens. He was recognized as the most outstanding chemist in the southeastern United States (1992) by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Dr. Carraher currently serves as co-chair of the ACS’s Joint Polymer Education Committee, on the board of the Intersocietal Polymer Education Committee, and has been a member of the ACS’s Committee on Professional Training (CPT). He also serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Polymeric Materials and on the board of the Journal of Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers and Materials and the Journal Chinese Advanced Materials Society. The author or co-editor of about 70 books and over 1,000 articles, Dr. Carraher has chaired/co-chaired numerous national and international symposia. His research has led to the synthesis of over 75 new families of polymers.

More than a straightforward retelling, this edition invites readers to explore important social issues such as alienation, the consequences and ethics of scientific studies, as well as the nature of creation and destruction. Rich and lustrous artwork remains the same in both versions. Bucolic mountainsides and charming villages are rendered in a classical European painting style. In stark contrast, horrific elements are depicted with grotesque angular figures in monochromatic tones. Excellent lettering enhances the narrative without distracting from the images. An especially nice feature is the use of boldface to highlight key words and phrases. A table of contents, based on the original three-volume edition, helps readers follow the story’s progression. Back matter includes a biography of Shelley, a description of the novel’s origin and history, and a clear description of comic-page creation for this remarkable edition. Reluctant readers who start with the “Quick Text” will probably be enticed to try the “Original Text” and continue to explore this exquisite rendition of a gothic classic.

and one of the best, and best-written horror stories in literature

If you're reading this review, you only have one question. You're not looking for a book review, you already know it's a classic. You already know this is the most original, and one of the best, and best-written horror stories in literature. You may or may not like the story, but that's a matter of personal taste. A lot of people don't like Shakespeare, but no one questions whether he was a good writer or not. If you don't like the writing style, it's because you aren't familiar with the English of this period. Nearly eighty years before Stoker's "Dracula" ( an idea stolen from Polidori's "The Vampyre", which was an idea stolen from LeFanu's "Carmilla"), this most-original horror masterpiece was born. So, your only question is, "Is this really the uncensored 1818 version? Because I've only seen one other verified version, and it's over twenty dollars in paperback. All the others claiming to be the 1818 version have been disproved." YES, as far as I can tell, it is. The only preface is Shelley's own original. There is no introduction, no commentary or editorial credits whatsoever. There are no illustrations, and the spelling and language have not been edited. Have a good thesaurus handy. So, here it is, the author's original script, no frills, for a bargain price. Which is exactly what I was looking for.

This is NOT the 1818 edition!!!

This book claims to be the 1818 original text, but it is NOT. THIS IS THE 1831 EDITION! I specifically needed the 1818 edition for my literature class, and the 1831 edition is substantially different. The overall theme/tone is different (the original emphasizes free will, while the later edition emphasizes the role of fate). There are many other small changes- in the 1831 edition Ernest becomes a soldier, while in the original he is a farmer; in the 1831 edition Elizabeth is an orphan adopted by Victor's family, while in the original she is his blood cousin; in the 1831 edition (unlike the original), Henry Clerval has to defy his father in order to go to college. I became suspicious that I had the wrong edition during class, and then looked up these differences and confirmed that THIS BOOK IS THE 1831 EDITION! If you need a particular edition for a class, be warned that this book is falsely advertised.

Counterfeit Oxford Classics Edition

This Book looks an awful lot like the Oxford World Classics version of the text. DO NOT BE FOOLED. IT IS NOT. This text has neither introduction nor appendices, and lacks volume numbers. The cherry on top is that it is not even, as it claims to be, the original 1818 text. Rather, it is a bastardized version of the 1818 and 1831 versions.

In trying to understand Hinduism I have heard from other sources that the Bhagavad Gita is the most popular story among Hindus, and I have heard that Paramhansa Yogananda is highly respected in America for this most excellent explanation of the story. A book written in another language can not simply be translated because many of the words in the foreign language do not have an equivalent word in English. Thus explanations are needed at every turn. I love this book, for its in depth, thought provoking presentation of this most famous story!

Best simplified version of Bhagvad Gita!

All explained very well, so that anybody can read it and it explains in very simple words with best definitions ever. Swami Kriyananda was gifted with incredible memory and he made a very good use out of it. Paramhansa Yogananda's explanation of Gita is the best till date.

Larger than I expected! Informational, Educational

I admit, I didn't look at the size when I ordered the book. When it arrived, I was pleased to see it was a nice tall hardcover book in excellent condition, even though I bought it used. This book is not a story, this is an educational book. My daughter is infatuated with Paris, and although she's 11 (note: below grade level reading, preteen mind) she wanted this book. She loves it. It's an easy way for her to remember places in Paris without it being textbooky. It's great for younger kids too of course! It has very nice drawings and brief passages about famous places and common sites of Paris. A nice touch in the later editions is that the editor has put "updates" to information such as: police are no longer on bicycles, but are on motorbikes, markets have moved, and other tidbits of change. If you buy educational books to read to your young children, I'd recommend this one as a nice introduction to the places in Paris. That, and Google Earth (ha ha).

Charming and Surprisingly Packed with Information

I was searching for a non-fiction book on Paris for my 3rd grade class when I discovered this book. It is a jewel! The illustrations are both incredibly beautiful and detailed. The book also gives a great tour of Paris, it travels to all of the main landmarks and it is full of fun facts about the city. My students enjoyed it immensely, it is a great way to get kids excited!
