One million happy gardens. Yours may be next!

For most of us, vegetable gardening is about growing food. Nikolay Kurdyumov begs to differ. He invites you to "bring your backyard garden to the front of your mind" and brilliantly shows that gardening is most and foremost about ENJOYMENT, and growing WITH your plants. He describes how you can literally see a reflection of your own personality in your plants (are they unhappy or diseased? hm!). And his ideas on using the garden as a model for achieving success in life are absolutely beautiful. I truly found in Kurdyumov the key "human" dimension that I've been missing in all of the classic permaculture and organic gardening texts (Mollison, Jeavons, Rodale, etc.).
From the very first lines of this truly remarkable volume I knew that it was a very special book. In Kurdyumov, we meet a great author who can be scientifically precise, immensely practical, deeply inspiring, metaphysical, and funny all at the same time! His love for plants touches your heart, the breakthrough insights he presents wow your mind, and you keep laughing all along at his witty, self-effacing humor! Makes me want to get out into my garden...

This book is just plain fun to read, even if your garden is just a tomato plant in a planter box. Nick brings humor and down-to-earth practicality to a subject many of us are already somewhat familiar with-food gardening, from the viewpoint of someone half a world away in a country many of us think of as a former adversary, and we find that out in the garden we really have a lot in common. I've given a number of gardening friends copies of the book not only because I think they'll enjoy the read, but also to share some of the neat little gardening ideas I found in its pages. Nick makes me want to get out into my garden and start applying them...as soon as the weather warms up a little!

One of my most treasured (and valuable) gardening manuals

This engaging book is chock full of practical instruction (along with bits of life wisdom) and incorporates sound permaculture principles. Love your plants and have fun in your garden for best results all 'round! Kurdyumov explains the principles behind his recommendations, so that one can readily adapt his recommended practices to make plants, those sessile vegetative creatures, flourish in other parts of the world. The cartoon illustrations are relevant and witty, and he often gives the reader leads to works by other sensible and useful authors on whose work he builds.
