Review
In 1909, Arthur Edward Waite encouraged Pamela Colman Smith to produce a tarot deck with appeal to the world of art that would have significance behind the symbols, and thus make the deck more important than tarot packs previously used for centuries. The result was the unique Rider-Waite Tarot deck which has endured as the world's most popular 78-card tarot deck. The innovative cards, including the 56 Minor Arcana, depict full scenes with figures and symbols. This featured, combined with Pamela Smith's ability to capture the subtleties of emotion and experience, has made the Rider-Waite Tarot the basis for the designs of many 20th Century packs. The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack is a facsimile edition originally printed from palates that were destroyed during the bombing of London during World War II. The deck and book set comes complete and in full-color with original Tudor Rose back design, Celtic Cross divinatory chart, and The Key to the Tarot by Arthur Waite. --Midwest Book Review

Poor Reproduction
By Phoenix Moonshadow
I bought this deck for my husband, who is learning Tarot. I am very disappointed in the quality of it. It appears to be a reproduction of a reproduction. The lines are not as neat and detailed. Some cards have details that appear to be missing (the 5 of Pentacles - the first mans arms are missing or obscured by the poor quality). Almost every card appears pixilated. I could go on with the list of problems but I think I will stop there. The only pros to this deck are the heavy card stock and the mini book that comes with it.

I will be uploading pictures of these cards (via Photo bucket since Amazon doesn't allow uploads on this item) compared side by side with my Waite/Smith deck so you can see what I am talking about.

Just Starting Out? This IS the deck for YOU!!
By Whitney
This is a great deck to start out with not just because of the simplicity of Rider Waite but also because this deck is so sturdy the cards are on thicker material than regular playing cards and can take a lot of handling as for other decks of tarot cards they are usually really thin and damage easily. Of course this is a reprint otherwise they would cost a lot more but the quality is still great. The pictures are a little speckled but again if you are just starting out this is still the deck to get. Upon opening the little book that's it comes with I did look through it and decided it was useless, its so much more beneficial to go and buy a decent book and use it instead since most books use this deck anyways.

My First RW
By J. G. Morales
After reading the reviews, I was initially on the side of all who complained about the USGAMES copyright on the front. That was before I ordered my deck. Placing this on the cards is in poor taste, but it's incredibly tiny. Unless you seriously just hate the thought of it being there, it's not large enough to be a distraction. You have to squint or hold the card close to your face to even make out that they're words. It's literally that tiny. If you're above a certain age, you may not be able to find the little words at all! I didn't even notice it till I remembered the reviews and thought to look for it. I still say it's in poor taste, but it won't stand in the way of a reading.

The coloring of the cards isn't very vibrant, as others have said. The colors really are quite orangey, too! However, as I've never owned a deck of actual Rider-Waite cards before, it doesn't matter as much to me as it might to others. Depending on how you read, better coloring might be appreciated. Personally, I only bought the deck just to have a set of Rider-Waite cards, and I do appreciate *finally* having a deck with those timeless images that even non-tarot readers have seen before.

I think the off coloring actually gives the deck an antique sort of feel, and I appreciate it for what it is. I already know the cards by their images, so it's nice to have a deck with those images actually on the cards. =-)

As for the booklet it contains, it really is small. If you need a book to help you out, you should probably purchase a separate tarot book (such as Tarot Plain and Simple by Anthony Louis). This booklet doesn't have enough info for newbies who are serious about learning tarot. If you're just playing around and getting used to the cards, the accompanying book should be fine till you're sure you're serious about tarot.

This deck has its own charm, and may be better suited for people who don't need to rely heavily upon the coloring and detail. On the other hand, it may not be so complicated after all, as anyone who has a real interest in tarot has probably seen most of these images before, and can probably connect a lot of the cards to at least one meaning already.

My oldest has taken an interest in Tarot cards, and I will be using this deck to teach him because these images are most common. I already have him going over the cards and telling me what they mean to him based on the images alone, and with no background information. He's only 10 and he's doing well with it, though some of the things he may be too young to grasp on his own, such as the High Priestess. Better coloring might help for some, but so far the old feel of this deck doesn't seem to hurt.
