THIS IS A TRULY HELPFUL BOOK

I have been living in a van by choice for about 4 years. I really wish I had found a book like this when I first decided to live this lifestyle. There was some information on the internet that was helpful but having it all in one place makes it so much easier. This isn't a dry, facts only, type of book. Bob makes it easy and fun to read. If you are currently living in an old car or a van or a million dollar motorhome or if you are just thinking about it this is a great book to help you live this life in the safest most enjoyable way possible within your budget.

Easy Reading, Essential Information, and a Healthy Perspective

Regardless of your state emotionally and materially, Bob Wells doesn't judge you. He simply suggests that living a life on the road is more natural than living in a fixed dwelling with a mortgage, a deed, a lease. It's more natural, he says, because it isn't fixed, it isn't safe. Your life is more raw. You are exposed. You are living closer to nature. Therefore, he says, you may find yourself being happier.

What a healthy perspective. Other authors have written this kind of book from the viewpoints of paranoia or the notion that there's something romantic about abandonment of places, people, and or even one's best self. Worst though, some authors have no alternative point of view, they're just inviting the reader to move from their secure house to a secure RV in a secure RV park. I'd rather hear the paranoid guy tell me about the best kinds of bullet-proof glass for my van.

But like I said, Wells is none of that. He fuses his realistic yet positive and hopeful philosophy with a lot of practicality. In that way he prepares you mentally and then he gets you on the road with excellent and specific advise on every major concern regarding living in a vehicle.

At the end of the book Bob doesn't leave you stranded. He steers you to forums where you can ask further questions, meet people, and drive further into the sub-culture of vandwelling, car living, and RVing. He invites you to write and visit him, wherever he may be camped.

I recommend this book to those interesed in mobile living, to those who are into simplicity or life editing, and also to anyone living or planning to live within some form of alternative housing. It's an easy, highly informative, and fascinating read.

Great book with a wealth of information!

This book is packed full of lots of information on how to life your life in a small van. Makes me want to hit the road in a van right now. You will not be disappointed in this purchase and well worth the price. Could not put the book down and will reference it many times on my road to freedom. Bob gives lots of real life examples from his many years on the roads and breaks down all the different options and choices out there. Can't wait for the next book from Bob!

W. Phillip Keller, born in East Africa, always loved wildlife and the outdoors. "The Lord Is My Shepherd"

The Lord! But who is the Lord? What is His character? Does He have adequate credentials to be my Shepherd—my manager—my owner?

And if He does—how do I come under His control? In what way do I become the object of His concern and diligent care?

These are penetrating, searching questions, and they deserve honest and basic examination.

One of the calamities of Christianity is our tendency to talk in ambiguous generalities.

David, the author of the poem, himself a shepherd and the son of a shepherd, later to be known as the "Shepherd King" of Israel, stated explicitly, "The Lord is my Shepherd." To whom did he refer?

He referred to Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel.

His statement was confirmed by Jesus the Christ. When He was God incarnate amongst men, He declared emphatically, "I am the good Shepherd."

But who was this Christ?

Our view of Him is often too small—too cramped—too provincial—too human. And because it is, we feel unwilling to allow Him to have authority or control—much less outright ownership of our lives.

He it was who was directly responsible for the creation of all things both natural and supernatural (see Colossians 1:15–20).

If we pause to reflect on the person of Christ—on His power and His achievements—suddenly like David we will be glad to state proudly, "The Lord—He is my Shepherd!"

But before we do this it helps to hold clearly in mind the particular part played upon our history by God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

God the Father is God the author—the originator of all that exists. It was in His mind, first, that all took shape.

God the Son, our Saviour, is God the artisan—the artist, the Creator of all that exists. He brought into being all that had been originally formulated in His Father’s mind.

God the Holy Spirit is God the agent who presents these facts to both my mind and my spiritual understanding so that they become both real and relative to me as an individual.

Now the beautiful relationships given to us repeatedly in Scripture between God and man are those of a father to his children and a shepherd to his sheep. These concepts were first conceived in the mind of God our Father. They were made possible and practical through the work of Christ. They are confirmed and made real in me through the agency of the gracious Holy Spirit.

So when the simple—though sublime—statement is made by a man or woman that "The Lord is my Shepherd," it immediately implies a profound yet practical working relationship between a human being and his Maker.

It links a lump of common clay to divine destiny—it means a mere mortal becomes the cherished object of divine diligence.

This thought alone should stir my spirit, quicken my own sense of awareness, and lend enormous dignity to myself as an individual. To think that God in Christ is deeply concerned about me as a particular person immediately gives great purpose and enormous meaning to my short sojourn upon this planet.

And the greater, the wider, the more majestic my concept is of the Christ—the more vital will be my relationship to Him. Obviously, David, in this Psalm, is speaking not as the shepherd, though he was one, but as a sheep; one of the flock. He spoke with a strong sense of pride and devotion and admiration. It was as though he literally boasted aloud, "Look at who my shepherd is—my owner—my manager!" The Lord is!

After all, he knew from firsthand experience that the lot in life of any particular sheep depended on the type of man who owned it. Some men were gentle, kind, intelligent, brave, and selfless in their devotion to their stock. Under one man sheep would struggle, starve, and suffer endless hardship. In another’s care they would flourish and thrive contentedly.

So if the Lord is my Shepherd I should know something of His character and understand something of His ability.

To meditate on this I frequently go out at night to walk alone under the stars and remind myself of His majesty and might. Looking up at the star-studded sky I remember that at least 250,000,000 x 250,000,000 such bodies—each larger than our sun, one of the smallest of the stars—have been scattered across the vast spaces of the universe by His hand. I recall that the planet earth, which is my temporary home for a few short years, is so minute a speck of matter in space that if it were possible to transport our most powerful telescope to our nearest neighbor star, Alpha Centauri, and look back this way, the earth could not be seen, even with the aid of that powerful instrument.

All this is a bit humbling. It drains the "ego" from a man and puts things in proper perspective. It makes me see myself as a mere mite of material in an enormous universe. Yet the staggering fact remains that Christ, the Creator of such an enormous universe of overwhelming magnitude, deigns to call Himself my Shepherd and invites me to consider myself His sheep—His special object of affection and attention. Who better could care for me?

By the same sort of process I stoop down and pick up a handful of soil from the backyard or roadside. Placing it under an electron microscope I am astounded to discover it teems with billions upon billions of micro-organisms. Many of them are so complex in their own peculiar cellular structure that even a fraction of their functions in the earth are not yet properly understood.

Yes, He the Christ—the Son of God—brought all of this into being. From the most gigantic galaxy to the most minute microbe, all function flawlessly in accordance with definite laws of order and unity which are utterly beyond the mind of finite man to master.

Gives new meaning and understanding to the 23rd Psalm

This is the best book. If you are looking for a Bible study for Psalm 23, look no further. This is awesome. Phillip Keller was a real shepherd, and he thoroughly explains some of the things about sheep that explains the 23rd Psalm in so much more depth. Being that I'm not a shepherd, I didn't totally understand some of the reasoning behind the 23rd Psalm. But after reading some of the explanations of sheep and the things that they do, it brings newer meaning and insight to the 23rd Psalm. This is an older version of the book. The newer versions that are on sale now are only excerpts from the book. This is the actual book itself. Wish he would re-publish this one in its entirety so that more people could study this. This was definitely worth finding a used copy of to study. I have enjoyed it so very much.

This is written by a real shepherd. I learned so much about why God compares our relationship to that of a shepherd and his sheep. There are so many aspects of sheep that we don't know about unless we live with them. All the things he talks about describes our behavior towards God, and God's love and protection towards us.
One small example is the fact that sheep are completely defenseless. They literally have no means of defending themselves, except running. Therefore, they are completely dependent on the shepherd, and when he is not around, they feel nervous and cannot grow healthily.
It is an easy and engrossing read. Highly recommend.

This book A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 is EXCELLENT!!!!!! The only problem I have with this copy is I needed Large Print and I didn't mention that on my order so they sent the normal print. Someone gave me this book exact cover and all several years ago but the print was the large print....I like giving it to some older people in church and we need the larger print...but when I ordered it I didn't see anything to mark so you would know...I just thought it would come like the one I have...I Thank You and maybe I'll see one for larger print the next time. Thank You again for all these items...I don't have time to write more reviews but your products are just wonderful and I want to Thank You Very Much. Gayl and Wayne Nifong

Manski's strategy is to divorce identification from purely statistical concepts and to present the logic of identification analysis in ways that are accessible to a wide audience in the social and behavioral sciences. In each case, problems are motivated by real examples with real policy importance, the mathematics is kept to a minimum, and the deductions on identifiability are derived giving fresh insights.

Manski begins with the conceptual problem of extrapolating predictions from one population to some new population or to the future. He then analyzes in depth the fundamental selection problem that arises whenever a scientist tries to predict the effects of treatments on outcomes. He carefully specifies assumptions and develops his nonparametric methods of bounding predictions. Manski shows how these tools should be used to investigate common problems such as predicting the effect of family structure on children's outcomes and the effect of policing on crime rates.

Successive chapters deal with topics ranging from the use of experiments to evaluate social programs, to the use of case-control sampling by epidemiologists studying the association of risk factors and disease, to the use of intentions data by demographers seeking to predict future fertility. The book closes by examining two central identification problems in the analysis of social interactions: the classical simultaneity problem of econometrics and the reflection problem faced in analyses of neighborhood and contextual effects.

Good book on an important topic

The book is really easy to read even if your background in statistics is light.

it is rather opinionated (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and addresses important topics in statistical identification namely: what can you learn from a statistical model? This is too often a non discussed topic, either by econometricians who go too deep in the technical details, or by applied social scientists who look at statistics as a tool that helps to make their case.

This book is a nonparametric introduction written for social sciences students. This implies that it's light on the mathmetical side. But the nonparametrics are easy to understand anyway. This is a highly recommended book for those who want to formalize their thoughts and want to test that model with real life data but find it difficult to apply classical parametric methods.

Kevin Cameron delivers again...

This review does not cover the entire book as I just received it yesterday. However, after reading first few chapters and browsing of the rest of the book, it proves that Kevin's writing remains at its best. Here his subject is the engines of racing motorcycles through history and he applies his usual style of examining the context, technological and engineering constraints and the social, economic and political scene in which these iconic and important powerplants were born. The book is substantial at over 400 pages. It isn't a coffee table book, but a wonderfully dense blend of words and pictures - both color and black and white - by which he delivers his analyses. I've skimmed the book, looking over it's design and subjects, and my sole complaint is that there aren't more detailed engineering drawings, cut-aways and photos of the engines. Knowing Kevin, I'm certain his prose with allow me to mentally fill in the blanks beautifully. Thanks for another great read Kevin!

Kevin Cameron is both a master engineer and a fine, skilled journalist. He brings highly technical material to the general reader and interested enthusiast. The best part of this book is that it teaches you the technical material without deteriorating into textbook arcane. It makes you FEEL like a skilled engineer when you read it. Cameron has the skill to pull this off.

The book features detailed chapters about the historical and technical backgrounds of 53 important motorcycle engines. It's a varied mix of configurations, from the Harley XR to the Honda NR to the modern Yamaha inline fours. Most of these engines were race only designs, but more than a few were eventually configured for street use, such as the Suzuki GSX-R.

The color photographs and few technical graphics which are included are from archival sources, and were not commissioned specifically for this book. Generally, the feature of this book is the text, and the illustrations serve to enhance the text.

More of a motorsports history book than a technical manual, the book nevertheless includes enough wizardry to keep even the most fanatical engineers engaged.

This is the book I've been waiting for ever since I first became addicted to motorcycle racing, way back in the early 1960s. Cameron covers the history and development of every important and ground-breaking motorcycle racing engine since 1927, and he does it in language that will keep everyone from casual enthusiast to expert motorhead engaged.

While the engineering details are all there, the author also includes the personalities of those involved in engine development and racing, with hundreds of great photos, many of them showing engine details usually hidden from we mere mortals behind fairings and closed pit doors.

This book is the real deal, worth every cent, and a must-have addition to any ardent motorcycle racing fan's bookshelf.

Really fun scenes but muddy plot

I'll fully admit, I like transformation stories of dubious consent. I also like the light-hearted story where people just go at it with little concern for really much of anything else. This story definitely caters to that, with minotaurs and cowgirls, randy wolves and scene after scene. There is also a healthy smattering of slutdom and a lot of other fetishes. I really enjoyed the broad range of sexualities in the story.

What I didn't care was the plot Or, more accurately, the lack of a significant one. It had more cohesiveness than your typically 4-hour porn tape, but not by much. The crimson milk tied the story together and threw everyone into an orgasmic frenzy. But, beyond that thin connection between the scenes, I felt there wasn't much tension or driving force.

In the end, it is a fun stroke story with lots of over-the-top scenes, but not anything I'd be talking about years later.
